Mold and Moisture Can Affect the Integrity of Your Concrete Foundation

How does moisture get into concrete?

Concrete by nature is porous, and this porosity is a natural byproduct of how concrete cures and dries. These potential voids in the concrete can allow moisture to enter and flow through the foundation.

As it travels through connected cavities, this invasive moisture may not only permeate the concrete. For spaces such as basements or crawlspaces, it can also result in increased indoor humidity. It may also cause mold to grow on the concrete. Read More: https://www.concretedecor.net/departments/building-with-concrete/mold-and-moisture-can-affect-the-integrity-of-your-concrete-foundation/

How to determine the length of wedge anchor to use

Tip-Up construction project continues in Orlando, Florida

This added brick gives the building a interesting look compared to other buildings with only a concrete façade.

Best Brick Anchors

Male or Female Anchor?

  • Female anchors would require the spotting of the anchor and then place the fixture over the holes. When there is more than one anchor, it may be difficult to get all the holes lined up properly for installation. Female type anchors also require a large hole to be drilled because the hole size is equal to the outside diameter of the anchor. The female type anchor will give a more finished look because the head style and type of bolt used will not protrude a far distance from the surface.
  • Male anchors allow the hole to be drilled with the fixture in place. The fastener to be inserted through the fixture can be fastened directly into the hole drilled into the brick. Because hole size equals anchor size, a smaller hole is needed for the diameter of the male anchor being used as compared to the larger hole required for a female type anchor. A wide variety of head styles is available depending on the diameter and type of fasteners chosen. Mass Customization Through Digital Fabrication

Imagine being hired for a new job, then having for your first assignment a project outside your area of expertise.

That’s the challenge faced by Evan Emery when he was hired as a designer by 180 Degrees Design + Build. And, while he’s still learning about concrete, the geometric wall he created from concept to finished product is being well-received by the firm’s architectural clientele. The Bipartisan Infrastructure Law is benefiting communities all around the country.

The Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA) is a five-year, $1.2 trillion federal infrastructure bill that was signed into law in November 2021. The bipartisan IIJA marks the country’s largest investment in infrastructure across all Report Card categories in nearly a century. Today, communities in all 50 states are seeing the benefits of the bipartisan infrastructure law, as funds go toward fixing potholes, rehabilitating bridges, replacing lead pipes, and cleaning up the environment.

Building a solution: Plastic-to-concrete additive plant opens

CRDC Global is turning hard-to-recycle plastic into a concrete additive in Pennsylvania and plans to expand across the country as quickly as it can.

The company in mid-October brought its first commercial-scale facility in the United States on-line in York, Pa. Ross Gibby, CRDC chief operating officer, told Plastics Recycling Update that while the company has “some pretty aggressive goals,” the plastics issue merits such aims.

CRDC takes plastics and turns them into an additive for structural concrete called RESIN8, which reduces weight, slows water absorption and improves insulation. Read more: https://resource-recycling.com/plastics/2022/11/01/building-a-solution-plastic-to-concrete-additive-plant-opens/
